Potter Mania Continues...
As the penultimate movie from the franchise rolls out we see a change. It’s dark. Not the kiddy dark that we had starting with Prisoner of Azkaban, but the darkness that would interest adults. Then again the story and the characters are also turning considerably mature and darker in their personalities.
Now, the movie unfortunately falls in its own trap. It’s a great adaptation of the first half of the final book. It remains true to the book, and in doing so unfortunately also turns out to be slow moving and at times boring.
There is no point in talking about the story. Like most of the previous Potter movies, certain characters have been left out or not given as much importance as they got in the book, but that by now is to be expected. Also, on the plus side, since the movies have been so far apart, especially from the books, I was glad because I had forgotten most of the smaller characters and didn’t really miss anyone. This also makes is easier for me, because now I was able to watch the movie without comparing it much with the book.
I am also glad that we are nearing the end of the franchise. I know there are a whole lot of you who love the books/movies to death, but I for one have just about had an overdose of it. I would like to see it to the end, but it no longer interests me enough to want to go and watch it on the first day, let alone first week, or as in this case till the DVD came out.
So, the movie gets a 3/5 star rating from me. There are a couple of reasons for the extra 1 star that I gave it. Firstly, the action at the start and the climax is entertaining enough to excite you about the last installment. Then, there is the cinematography which is simply brilliant. The locations of the shoot (whether digital or real) are beautiful and had it not been for my home theater I surely would have missed out on their grandness. So Yes! I do recommend that if ever you get a chance watch the movie on a big screen, as that is the only way you will really appreciate how beautiful it is.
